he first batch of rough diamonds subject to supervision and control by the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) arrived in Macau on Thursday, after customs clearance and verification of the respective certificate, the Economic Bureau (DSE) said.
Law No. 15/2019 on the application of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme for international trade in rough diamonds came into force in the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) on 1 October this year.
Under the same statute, the import, export and transit of rough diamonds are subject to the licensing regime set out in the Foreign Trade Law and must be accompanied by the Kimberley certificate, and it is incumbent upon the DSE and the Customs Service to oversee trade of rough diamonds.
The DSE has already issued an operating license for rough diamond economic activities to eight companies and the first batch of rough diamonds totalling more than 600 carats was imported by one of the companies with a valid operating license. (Macauhub)
